Solo Devil’s Path logistics.

For those who’ve done the Devil’s Path solo (or at least with no second car) how have you done the logistics of getting from one trailhead to the other?

most people either coordinate with a friend or hire a shuttle company to pick them up at the end of the traverse and to drive them to the start, as the signal at each end, especially the western terminus is either unreliable or non-existent, depending on your service provider. Shuttle service is not cheap, so best bet is to find a friend to either hike with or who can help out with the shuttle.

You know, this brings up a constant problem for the ever-popular full Devil's Path. Maybe an alternative should be gaining in popularity, such as Prediger to 214 And Back. Of course, you could also access from, say, Mink Hollow North, and go left and right, out and back, which would give more simple bail-out options.

So yes, there are ways to do just as much on your own, but of course, its not quite the same as doing the entire magical (choose your adjective) Devil's Path. Maybe that's why FKT has not started such an out and back distinction. They maybe just want to keep people doing the entire path. I hike about 95% of the time on my own. I have a couple running buddies who would probably be up to doing something like this, but we all have jobs, kids, and the rest. Coordinating anything with anyone after 40 is impossible. So that’s why I hike about 95% of the time on my own.

Best to have the shuttle or cab drop you off at the start, then there is no mistake with time and conditions when you finish and your vehicle is waiting.

So, I did a Devil's Path equivalent today. Parked at Mink Hollow South. Warning, its long and does have tough-guy training involved with the nettles. So, after reaching the intersection, I hiked out to Indian Head, and then back to 214, and then back to Mink Hollow and out. Which of course means I climbed the 3 biggest Eastern Devil's Path Mountains twice, from both directions, and the easiest climb once. So 7 climbs, which I believe is at least as hard as the Devil's Path in elevation and distance. So, Voila, all of the pain and none of the extra gas.

Didn't have such a watch, but I'm thinking maybe 8400 vertical and 24 or 25 miles, but that's just my feeling. Done before 11 hours, so whatever that should mean. It did go well, considering I didn't really run. Did hurry though.
