Having grown tired of the approach from Peekamoose Road, we opted to hit these two from the Neversink River instead. The drive to the Denning trailhead always seems long and today was no exception. With only two other cars in the lot, we hit the trail right around 10:30AM with temps around 35F and light frozen spit coming down from the sky.

Plenty of mud down low with some hard ice near the wooden bridges. The trail is pretty pleasant as it climbs gradually along the ridge of Table Mountain. I especially like that nice overlook about halfway up Table, looking across the valley at the Table/Van Wyck ridge. We put microspikes on shortly before the 3000 foot level. We hit the high point of Table Mountain right around 12:30PM and made the short jaunt over to Peekamoose by 1PM. There is enough snow on top to possibly warrant snowshoes, especially if the temps were a little warmer. Today was cold enough that spikes were fine.

We took a quick break at the lean-to to sip hot chocolate spiked with cherry brandy before what was an otherwise uneventful descent back to the Neversink. The wind was really picking up as the day went on. Back to the car by 3PM. Great day in the December woods.
