  • Mount Sherrill, North Dome, Westkill 11/08/2018

A little overcast in the early hours and getting progressively more sunny as the day progressed. Nice to have a cool, crisp dry Fall day with open woods to traverse Mount Sherrill, North Dome and Westkill.

The only difficulty underfoot was loose mud in the steeper bushwhack sections. As it was mostly hidden by leaf cover, it made for some interesting sudden slips and slides. Some saves and some not.

We found an orange cylindrical object attached to a tree on both Sherrill and North Dome, early enough to record our entries on the memo pad’s first page. On North Dome, there was a nice cartoon of the painting process included in the book. As instructed, we removed the note about the wet paint from this one. Looking forward to playing “Find the Orange Canister“ again next week in the southern peaks.

It was nice bumping into Hiker Joe and his crew at the cars as they were finishing up the Hunters Loop.

specs: about 11 miles and 4,170’ ascent and 3,640’

Tossing westkill, a gnarly climb in and of itself, to a pretty gnarly whack like ND + S makes for one heck of a day. Very nice.
