  • Gathering 2023! Back Again

Yes, we are in the process of finalizing some of the details but save the date MARCH 18th 2023.

Who - well everyone who is a member of the forum’s or ADK Highpeaks Foundation and friends.

What - Same as the past, hike, ski, just hang out, whatever meets your fancy during the day then gather in the evening at the hostel. Bring a dish to pass, beverages enjoy the company of the folks you have only met virtually or the long term friends you haven’t seen since pre-pandemic!

Where: T-Max and Topo’s Hostel; we want to thank Top of Gothics (David) for offering to host the event this year. More information below on reservations and such.

Why - First and foremost we like you! This community was in a large part galvanized by holding yearly gatherings many great friendships have developed overtime though the forums and hiking together. For the long time members it has been a way to long since we have seen one another to tell stories, exaggerations and downright fibs about what we’ve been up to over the past three years or more.
Also we just made a $1,000 grant to the Wilderness Leadership Program at North Country Community College to purchase a couple new 4 season agents for their Practicums and we are experiencing that all to common affliction in Latin known as Fundsarlo! So yes as it has always been the Foundation relies on the gracious support of members so this will also be a fundraiser.

Details - While at this time we do not have an organized event I.e. having folks on all 46 but depending on turnout it is not out of the question. If we don’t have enough to do the 46 we could also look at some of the other lists like the Saranac 6, LP9er, Tupper Lake Trio, etc. or not do anything organized at all, we’re pretty flexible around here.
For those of you who may be attending for the first time this is the normal course of events. Many people arrive Friday evening enjoy some BYO snacks, beverages to share and retire early in order to be rested for hiking on Saturday. Hike during the day Saturday come to the Hostel with a dish to pass and replenish all those calories you used up during the day, (and maybe a few more)

Lodging: T-Max and Topo’s have blocked out reservations for Friday and Saturday for this event if and when the Hostel is completely booked there are other places locally like the Cascade inn across the street and other venues in the Lake Placid area.
To reserve your Bunk or Private Room at the Hostel simply go here https://tmax-n-topo.com/ and click on the Request Room button to make your reservation (scroll to bottom of page to the Calendar) NOTE: Friday and Saturday are in Red showing nothing is available. This is because they are reserving the space for the Gathering you can still go ahead and put in your request for one of the two private rooms or for bunks. THERE IS A 2 Night Minimum for all weekend reservations!

    Look forward to seeing everyone

Since we are a little space challenged please RSVP Here as soon as possible so we plan accordingly

If you would like to make a donation in advance or if you cannot attend and would still like to donate.

"Climbing is about freedom. There's no prize money; there are no gold medals. The mountains are all about going there to do what you want to do. That's why I'll never tell anyone else how to climb. All I can say is, This is how I prefer to do it."

I am going, have made reservations and will be bringing a main dish, possibly Shepherds Pie seeing how it is St.Patrick’s day weekend and since my wife is also going to be in attendance I’m sure we will bring a bottle or 2 or 3 of wine and some non-alcoholic beverages to share for those who would rather negotiate the stairs safely.

Going. Hiking, partying, eating. Lots of socializing and good times guaranteed. And, if past results are an indicator of the futur, the food will be amazing.

I have that weekend off. If I can get Friday off, I’ll definitely be there.

That's it, we're closing the borders again.

I was hopeful to make the gathering. It’s been a long time since I’ve done an ADK winter hike and gathering. Unfortunately it’s a work weekend for me. Everyone enjoy
