  • Wakely Mt. Fun times!

Continuing my Firetower Challenge quest I went up Wakely on Sunday 8/23. The hike is a true tease!
Sure, 2 miles of sedate logging road just gets you comfortable. And then the fun begins. The 1.1 mile trip to the summit is unrelenting! Steep ! But fulfilling none the less. Lovely summit and dynamite tower! My 66 year old legs are grumpy today, but it was worth every foot!
3 towers to go- all in ADKS!

I was taken by the beauty of Wakely Pond! Is is public access?

Awesome! I’ll most likely get some more firetowers this winter and spring.

Hamilton County GIS shows all state land around Wakely Pond, so there is access. Looks like you could park at the NP trailhead to get to the pond pretty easily.

Wakely Pond is definitely public access. There are two or three drive-in campsites (free, first come, first serve) around it and two places to launch personal watercraft. The easiest launch is right where the Cedar River Road touches an arm of the pond. Glad you enjoyed the mountain. One of my favorites! So nice that the state restored the tower a couple of years ago!
