  • New Speed Record?

    https://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdo...ed-record.html

Didnt see this poste yet. I guess two guys broke the speed record for 46ers? I assume they are different than the person I'd read about earlier this year who was going to make an attempt in August?

It's been posted a few times. Different people than the guy going for it in August. I believe he said he was from Clifton Park.

Wow what a huge effort and very impressive. They stated they had attempted this before but lost their food to bears that got into their packs. I just hope they had bear cans with them for this attempt otherwise they were in violation of the law.

And then Ryan Atkins just took back the FKT for the GRT with a 5:08:12 on 7/12. I'd love to see how he navigates that Saddleback area to keep his time so fast.

What do you mean by "navigate the Saddleback area"?

If you're referring to the ledges (because contrary to popular lore they certainly aren't cliffs), here's a video courtesy of another forum member properly negotiating them. https://player.vimeo.com/video/77180020 They're just as quick in both directions.

I just meant I'd like to see how fast he climbs this section. It's not particularly difficult when you're taking your time like this video, but it still has to slow him down compared to the sprint down John's Brook. I know he's running sub 5 minute miles at some points. I've done a lot of the same courses/races he has and have always been amazed at his speed. I've seen him rip down some pretty technical stuff before and am particularly interested in watching how fast he does this section. When you're breaking the FKT with only a few minutes to spare, he's probably leaping down most of this stuff.
