  • Support the small businesses in the ADKs!

This is me stealing the great idea from bikerhiker about supporting the ADK small businesses which have been impacted right now.

The Mountaineer is still open online at https://www.mountaineer.com/

Cedar Run Bakery in Keene is still open until 5pm -- they ask that you only touch what you buy, please if you go be polite about it.

    Ausable Inn offering take-out: (518) 576-9584

Baxter Mountain Tavern offering take-out and delivery: (518) 576-9990

Most of the local restaurants (Ausable, Baxter, 46, etc.) are offering takeout. We live here in Keene and have been taking advantage of that.

    Remember to tip well!

Forty-six in Keene? They're not open AFAIK. https://www.fortysixer.com/

Thanks for the correction - I had not noticed that 46 was not on the takeout list. We have already had takeout from Baxter and Ausable this week - both were very good!

The Mountaineer and I go back aways. One of the original owners, George, and I hunted and hiked together. Whatever happened to Jim Wagner? I know he went west, that's all.

From the Adirondack Almanack. Links to all in the article...

Time for takeout? Restaurants still serving across the Adirondacks

As New York heads into its second week of shutdown for the majority of residents, you might be getting tired of eating your “quarantine rations.” Or maybe, like many of us, you are concerned about how your favorite local businesses are faring and would like to support them.

As of March 16, per Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s direct orders, all bars and restaurants/eateries had to transition to takeout/delivery only.

The following are lists/round ups of bars/restaurants/breweries that have remained open, compiled from various communities around the Adirondacks (in no particular order). Let us know what we missed in the comments section!

Right in Keene Valley, the Almanac list does not include Baxter and Ausable, the two obvious places.

This is obviously a great idea, all the time. but now even more so. The economic impact is a lot clearer now on the small businesses, now with almost a level playing field due to COVID.

Thanks for starting this thread, Sean.

This crisis could spawn an entirely new way of doing business. Perhaps, those people that are laid off can be part of a massive delivery service. Picture a restaurant that normally has 100 people coming in. While, a challenge, a place with a number of employees can deliver food everywhere, within a certain range. Car problems? Maybe, a business can get a good lease deal from local car dealers. I know some businesses can’t do that, but whoever can, go for it.
