Tom Rankin - "Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go?
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow.
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light?
Yet, conceals it to bring us the coolness of night."

When I hiked in Black Rock Forest this song Black Rock by OAR had me singing along in my car on 9W !
The song is not about Black Rock Forest but about special places we go to when you need to get away.

            Here's another orchestral piece:

Night on Bald Mountain, also known as Night on the Bare Mountain, is a series of compositions by Modest Mussorgsky (1839–1881).

Modest Mussorgsky's "A Night On Bald Mountain" A fine piece of music and also a scenario that could take place if you are stuck out late in Harriman State Park.

"Billy From the Hills" by one of my favorite songwriters, Greg Brown:

I believe the song is about his father.

I looked it up and found that John Denver was right with the Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains being in West Virginia. Sorry for any confusion.

Go rest high on that mountain, Vince Gill.
That sounds like a terrible idea.... What time?

Well that was the first Ukranian Doom Metal I've ever listened to. The forum always helps me broaden my horizons.

Yeah, i guess that genre isnt represented that strongly on the forum here, or anywhere on the planet for that matter except some dark place in kiev maybe, lol.
it was one of those songs that youtube linked me to while on a workout that was definitely memorable for me.

too mellow for my taste, haha. I prefer my metal to be "livelier"

How about an Ukrainian groove metal/death metal offering?

Mountain of the Condemned Men, by Zlam

Note - check out Jinger, if you want to discover new metal. A far superior metal band from Ukraine, in my opinion.

But, as far as the original topic, I still say the best mountain songs from Eastern Europe - about the mountains themselves and about climbing - belong to Vladimir Vysotsky, as I noted a few years back on this thread. He captured the feeling of climbing perfectly, the joy of discovery and despair that one could encounter in mountaineering. Most of the songs mentioned just have "mountain" in the title, but really don't go into the topic.

yes!!!! I love Sonata Arctica. In general, Scandinavian Metal scene is incredible. I really, really dig Amon Amarth.

Years ago, saw Sonata Arctica live at The Chance in Poughkeepsie (tiny venue; you are ten feet from the band). It was great.
