      I used to tell my kids I had to walk 5 miles to get to school and back home in raging blizzards, uphill, both ways. They never believed it.

        When I was working in a bookstore in Lake Placid, a tourist couple once asked me a few questions about walking around Mirror Lake. Their final question was, "which way is faster?"

        Darndest thing I'd ever heard, working in retail!
