Westkill 5/11

I adopted another little section of trail on the Devil's Path to maintain, since I have enjoyed taking care of my first section so much. My new section is from St. Anne's Peak to Mink Hollow, only about 2 miles, but it is in 2 miles. Sunday was my first time to check out my section of trail. I started out from the pa on Spruceton Road at the end of the DP, around 9:00AM. It was a beautiful sunny morning, the birds were chirping away as I slowly made my way up the trail, clearing small blow down as I came across it, a snip here and a snip there of anything that slapped me in the face or caught my feet. Even though the first 2 miles aren't mine I cleared anything I came upon, so all the small blowdown has been cut and moved. My section was in pretty good shape, a little trimming here and there and some small blowdown removal. It was such a beautiful day that I hiked out past the summit of Westkill to the view point for lunch. I enjoyed a nice quiet lunch and the pleasure of having the view point all to myself for a good half hour before a couple showed up. I chatted with the couple for a bit, then packed up and headed back down the way I came up. There are many wildflowers out, the trail is pretty dry only a few muddy spots, the streams are running good, and the forest is full of springs renewal of life. What a great day!!

Happy Trails - Cindy

Yeah, I was thinking about you guys. I was still tired from my trip out west and just didn't have the energy to slug a backpack again this weekend. That hike up out of the Grand Canyon on Monday was a long backpack up, nothing but 7 miles of up and then more up, oh and then more up(S. Kaibab trail). I felt like one of the pack mules I took pictures of passing me on their way down. Great trip!!!!

Rik, let me know when you plan on the traverse, I am interested if I am around. I will need a 4:30AM start and I want to start from the east, I expect to finish around 8:00PM. Maybe I will surprise myself and be better this time and actually finish instead of dropping out at Diamond Notch. I was preparing mentally on Sunday for that last push over Westkill (my nemis).

Guess I better get over to my section going up Indian Head and take care of that for you.

I'm not sure who's leading it, but I'll be doing work on Westkill, right next door, but not until 6/7. Cindy, looking forward to reading your trip report on the G. C. I'd love to compare notes!

Thanks for the trail work, much appreciated The trillium were just starting to open when I did North Dome and Sherrill from that trail a couple of weeks ago, they must be awesome now.
