Big Slide 2/8/08
Got out of class at 9am on Friday, so decided to head up Big Slide by myself. Arrived at the trailhead and started hiking around 10:30 am. The trail up the brothers was not broken in yet, so I decided to head along the John's Brook Trail first and then up the trail from near the Interior Outpost. This trail was very well broken in, the trail up the mountain itself was somewhat broken in by 4 people ahead of me. I reached the summit around 2 pm, used my Denali Evo Ascents all the way to the top with the tails attached. All those ahead of me used crampons for the last quarter mile, which I really didn't think was necessary. The view was amazing, all of the other mountain tops were in the clouds except for Big Slide.
I overtook 2 of the 4 hikers on the way down, and descended by way of the brothers. Glisading down over the brothers was a lot of fun, and I returned to the garden shortly before 5 pm. 9.5 miles total, took the rest of the weekend easy as it was Winter Carnival. |
