Garmin Edge 305??

This would be my first GPS and I like very much that its a combo heart rate monitor. Thought this would be a good place to mine the collective wisdom!

Can anyone offer any input on this model. At this point I have no real experience with GPS's, and would be wanting to make sure this unit would get good satellite reception, as I understand that can be a problem with less powerful units.

Also, I already have a HR monitor, so if this "bundle" package doesn't perform well as a GPS, I may just opt for a better model. However, it may be nice to have a combo unit -- since there is the potential for a stand alone GPS to interfere with my HR monitor. It also looks like it would be a cool addition to my cycling.

Am I making any sense??

I don't think a stand alone GPS will interfere with your heart monitor. It's only receiving a signal, it's not transmitting anything

I was using my gps at the same time as my HRM just the other day. If I held the gps close to my wrist receiver (like 2 inches) the HR field went blank until I moved the gps away (to about one foot or more).

One thing I'll have to check though is that my gps has a built in 2-way radio. Maybe if I turn the radio off this won't happen. Nevertheless, the 2 fucntioned perfectly well together.

Maybe it had switched to monitoring your brain waves?

Polars has a monitor transmitter that codes it's signal so it doesn't get interfered by outside electronic signals that can happen in a crowded gym from treadmills, other machines and other HRM users. I think it's about $20 more than the basic strap.

You must have a better Polar than I do -- mine is affected by interference from nearby gym equipment. When that happens I have to put the wristwatch reciever up to the chest strap and reset it. It blanks out like Neil described.

I'm guessing you have the basic model. Check out their website for the soft strap. http://www.shoppolar.com/_polarelect...cessories&pid=

I was just looking at it last Friday.
