Lake Colden - Mt. Colden, 5/14-5/18

5/14 The snow started from 2500 elevation but it was OK till the Lake Colden and around. On the way back to Upper Works on 5/18 there was already no snow on the trail - only mud. So, the snow melts fast now.

South slope of Mt Colden is practically clear of snow, and the trail is beautiful. The actual ascent is shear smooth rock and at this time - one long waterfall. Very challanging and revarding. When I passed the summit and tried to go to the North slope - the snow was way too deep. It might stay this way for another couple of weeks (IMHO). South slope of Mt Colden is the best bet for this time. Highly recommended.

South slope of Marcy might be OK too, but I saw a lot of snow on the trail to Tears of the Clouds (from the top of Colden). That trail should be a mess for a week or two.

I also did Indian Pass from Upper Works. Nice, easy, muddy.

Great pictures, Mike! I love the ice on the trees in the alpine zone.

Nice pictures. The "Calamity Pond" in the pictures is actually Flowed Lands. Calamity Pond is smaller and about a quarter mile away toward Upper Works.

Nice, the feet in the pic almost puts you there! Nice pictoral documentation.

Awsome!!!!!!!!! Calamity pond (flowd lands) picture. Your trail up Colden pictures are really good to. That trail (coming down for me) tired me to much to take ant pictures.

Thanks for sharing.
