Phelps 5/17/12 (& new bridge at Marcy Dam!!!)

Hiked Phelps from South Meadow. Arriving at Marcy Dam, we were treated to a copter ferrying in the supplies for the new footbridge to be built just below the dam. The trail was a bit wet from the previous day's t-storms, but really wasn't too bad. Some degree of erosion going up Phelps, but nothing nearly as bad as the severe erosion we encountered between Giant and Rocky the previous day. The weather was sunny with great views from the summit of Phelps. As the temperatures were on the cool side, no problems with black flies. I was told that the new bridge would be in place by July.
