Winter finish on Rocky

My wife Tara and I hiked Rocky today for her winter finish.

We went up the Neversink fisherman's path on a well packed, crusty track, and up the north ridge of Rocky to the summit. Conditions were nice, blue skies, when we detoured to the viewpoint on rocky's east side. Looks like there has been a fair bit of traffic recently. I finished my 4th overall round on Rocky as well.

We cruised over to Lone, at first not following tracks, then we picked them up and then dropped them for a straighter path. Whoever was there last must love walking in circles. Did the climb up to Lone where I hit 31/35W this season with 11 days to finish, plenty of time. I need Table and Peek and tried to convince my wife but she wasn't interested.

As we headed back down the west ridge of Lone there are areas that are already devoid of snow. We got back to the parking lot in time to see a group of backpackers in jeans and sneakers (and a blanket draped over a girls pack and head) heading out for the night. Second time in two weeks I've seen this. Apparently its not winter anymore in Pennsylvania (that's where they were from) hopefully no one loses any toes.

While she obviously already has the W35 Patch, Joe might be alluding to a special patch that will be given to all current members to mark the club's 50th anniversary.

Congrats Tara and Mike, hiking machines!

Congrats Tara and Mike, hiking machines!
She has "a patch" but doesn't have a number and THE patch, awarded officially at the meeting by Dave and the Club President!

What, I'm not good enough to "officially" award her a patch? It's not like I scratched it on a piece of birch bark on the way up.......although I wish I would have thought of that earlier, it would have been sweet!!

Surprised she hasn't caught the grid disease yet via osmosis

It was still very much winter in the Berkshires this past weekend. Maybe we'll get one last blast of good snow in the Cats just for fun.

Rocky....best for last

Congratulations. Let's see, now you have te seasonal leist and then the grid to look forward to.

You might be surprised how much winter is left, at least above 2500 ft.

I'm about halfway on the grid, Tara wants nothing to do with it!

Lots of winter left if you know where to look for it, or according to some who hiked with me, where not to look.
