Catalog of Irene Related Slides
Figured I’d start a catalog of Hurricane Irene related slides from what I’ve seen or heard from various people and or photos. Let’s add to this as we get more info!
Algonquin: 1. Enlarged western-most slide on NE side across from Airplane slides and cleared the drainage of trees. Basin: 1. Augmented and New SE False Summit Slide. Debris field intersections Saddleback’s southern slide. 2. New and augmented slides from N & NE ridges of false summit (west of Saddleback's Chicken Coop Slide). 3. 3-4 Tributary slides from Basin's ridge just south of the East Face Slides. These slide into the run-out from Basin's East face. Cascade: 1. New slide beginning at old Horizontal part of previous “T” slide set to Upper Cascade Lake. Colden: 1. Trap Dike cleaned from New slide (higher elevation) paralleling previous exit slide from Trap Dyke. 2. New slide down drainage south of Avalanche Pass Slide, formerly had small slides along southern edge. 3. Small slide (very minimal) NW of false summit between false summit drainages and above cliff. 4. Slide on northern flank of north shoulder. Dix: 1. New northern tributary of Beckhorn Slide on east side of Dix per "AlpineLamb". 2. New Buttress Slide (on SW running buttress between Hunters Pass Slide & North Fork Slide. Giant: 1. East face activity per Drew Haas, but haven’t seen pics 2. Putnam Brook slide on Giant looked expanded and cleaned up per "tcd" 3. New tributary on NE slide. Lower Wolf Jaw: 1. Old Bennies Brook run-out cleand to former slides and New Slide leading south to summit, run-out to Johns Brook. 2. New NW slides (2 branches) 1 ridge south of bennies brook, run-out to Johns Brook to the southwest of Bennies outlet. Macomb: Multiple slides south of summit Marcy 1. New slide on East side between cliffs and the scythe shaped slide Saddleback: 1. Added NW branch that connects to the old NE slide, added adjacent slide to the SE that almost connects, lengthened runout. 2. Significantly augmented (if not created) 3 SE slides. Tabletop: 1. Slide on north summit (can see from Cascade). Upper Wolf Jaw: 1. Old “skinny” slide along NW ridge widened along east side 2. NW ridge's Western-most Slide: New slab at bottom, disecting fracture has rubble added, Upper Pitch was enlarged along the eastern side of the pre-existing slab (largest portion on the west). Upper pitch also has a new smaller run on the east side. Runout intersects trail and continues to Johns Brook near Wolfjaws Leanto. 3. New short slide (about 150') between 1 and 2 above. 4. New slide on E starting near top of White slide to col b/t Armstrong and UWJ, long run-out. Whiteface 1. Small slab exposed on south side. 2. New smaller slide to the left of Ski Slide #1. Assuming this was created during Irene or shortly thereafter. Wright: 1. West of the Angel Slides with long run-out toward Marcy Dam.

Looking from Owl's Head on Sunday, the rarely visited Putnam Brook slide on Giant looked expanded and cleaned up.

Mudrat, thanks for posting the list. Will be interested to learn of others. Does anyone know the condition of the Trap Dike? Is it clogged with debris? Any word on whether it can be hiked?

Mudrat is famous
Just posted an item on Adirondack Almanack on slides that links to this thread.
I thought the closeup photo of the new slide on Saddleback deserved bigger play, so I ran it large on my Outtakes blog. You can find it here. |

Shouldn't this be posted in the slides section?
Is there an over/under for the last slide climbed?

![]() Don't do any betting for this weekend. I'm still recovering from Irene and trying to fix things!

Sounds like someone is going to have to design a new patch. We'll call it the "Irene-slide-patch"

In places ... but most of the slide was fairly clean. The tree jams below the final slab were the exception to the rule.
