Questions for the New England 100 Highest

El and I are heading to the White mountains to get all the 100 highest in NH that we can in a week. I haven't been able to join VFFT to ask questions but I know some hikers on this forum hike up there. We are going to do the 2 Weeks, Goose Eye, and Baldpates from Gorham. Then we will move down to Twin Mountain and stay there for a few hikes. We hope hike Nancy, Vose Spur, Scar Ridge and Nubble Peak. I have done research and it seems there are canisters on the last 4 mentioned mountains. Is this true? The first 3 we are doing are trails, then the fun begins. Does anyone have a great place to stay? We have stayed in just about all the towns now over the years. I notice the prices rising. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

Get a hold of Dean G. I talked to him yesterday and he only has 11 of the HH left in NH.

Get it straight Adam! :)

I only have 12 left 3 in NH, and 9 in ME Adam I have to do Vose Spur, Scar Ridge, and the Nubble one! Let me know when you plan on going up there and maybe we can attack them as a group. I was planning a weekend trip for my birthday Dec. 10-12, but can go sooner.

If you're going to the Peak above the Nubble bring along a little notebook, the one in the cannister is full. And also you might want to leave a new pen.

Good luck with that one, I'm never going back.

I'd also suggest trying some more trailed mountains before tackling Scar Ridge. Like Sandwich, which was a really great peak.

Hi Daniel, We already hiked Sandwich, it was nice. We checked out Scar Ridge in May when we were up there. We plan on crossing the river at the Big Boulder Camp grounds and go up. Crossing the river is not easy, and we think there is a canister on the peak to the east of the high point. We have all day. The hikes I mentioned are what we have left in New Hampshire. We hope to do the Ones in Maine next and finish somewhere in Vermont. Years from now. Thanks for the encouragement. Mike D.

There are canisters on most of the non-trailed peaks...although many are removed from time to time. Scar Ridge has a few across the ridge. Nancy won't have one, as there's pretty much a trail to the top.

PAtN has a herd path, but it's not really the best route. I'd stay away from it (the herd path), if you can.

No amazing suggestions for lodging.

It might be somewhat slow going, but I don't think you'll have any problem...especially if you get there before the snow flies. My car is similar, and I've been able to get there without any issues, so...

Thanks Ferris, I'm not worried about snow, we are heading up there this Friday and staying for 9 days to do 7 hikes. Mike D.
