Long Pond Mountain Hike/Paddle

8/3/2010

For anyone wanting to do a paddle/hike this trip is awesome! Long Pond (we accessed from the Floodwood Road just past St. Regis Outfitters).

We floated past several loons and listened as their calls echoed across the pond.

When we started out the water was just like glass - Beautiful. It was Claire's first time in a pond boat and she handled it like a pro

After about a 50 mintues paddle (taking our time) we reached the carry to Mountain Pond where we left our boats.

We changed into hiking boots and set off on the 1/2 mile carry to Mountain Pond..a sign directs you right to trail for Long Pond Mountain - 1.4 miles. Trail is well defined and easy to follow..flat for a bit then it ascends - nothing too steep. It took us about an hour to the summit. You get to a false summit and the actual summit is about a couple of minutes further. Views were hazy but nice of the ponds and rivers below.

Like always - a great paddle/hike with great friends
