Marcy Dam/Avalanche Camp Weather thursday to sunday

Hello guys. First time, short time (here).
I've been watching Lake Placid weather channel forecasts for thursday through sunday. This time of year can I expect Marcy Dam through Avalanche, Colden & Marcy to be any cooler, or should I expect the same weather as is forecast for Lake Placid ? thanks

Generally, I figure about 3-5 degrees colder (from LP temps) down in the lower areas like MD - Ava Pass, nothing dramatic obviously. Certainly as you get up towards the summits of Colden/Marcy you can possibly expect colder stuff. I find it not so much that the temps are all that much colder (they certainly are), but the exposure of the wind can certainly make the temps feel considerably different from the valleys.

Instead of just raw temps when planning in winter, I use -THIS- Aviation site that gives wind speeds. Then I check the 3000 (foot) level for 1800 hrs UTC (1:00 PM in the ADKs) for the days I' plan on being there. From there I can get a rough estimate of what to expect.

For this weeks -

Thursday - 30-35 degrees down low, but pretty windy up high (30-40 kts) expect chills in the 15-18 degree range.

Friday - Warmer (low 40s) down below, still windy up high but chills should not go too much below the high 20s.

Saturday - Pretty much more of the same.

Certainly chances of snow all the way. All and all, not to horrible.

BIG DISCLAIMER - this is all just rough estimates and certainly not to be considered the gospel. Like any weather forecast, subject to change.

thanks, that does help. wind, snow and cold are fine, preferred even.
We're hoping to avoid the rain that's forecast.

I'm with you Chip. Wind, rain and snow much more preferable than the rain in the forcast. I'm headed up for my first winter trip and was a little disappointed to see the warmer temps and rain in the forcast.
Thanks to Mavs for the valuable information!
