Osceola and East Osceola 5/29/2010

Took the long drive to the White Mountains on Saturday to hike Osceola and East Osceola from Tripoli Rd.
The trail up Mt Osceola is well graded w/ multiple switch backs but is very rocky, my feet and knees took a pounding more so on the down part. The trail from Mt Osceola to East Osceola is completely different, very steep in places and the somewhat scary "Chimney". The entire trail is in good condition, no blow downs and very little mud. The black flies were bad on the summits and parking lot but not too bad in the woods. Mostly cloudy day but nice views from Mt Osceola of the entire Pemi Wilderness area from the Franconia Range to Mt Carrigain. Mt Washington still has snow patches. No views from East Osceola summit area. Saw 2 interesting things. A girl hiking down the mountain drinking a beer and a tattooed man (from head to toe). Again still have never seen a MOOSE !
On the way home traffic was stopped on I-93 by the INS doing citizenship checks, a little to BIG BROTHER for my liking.

Those are two of my favorite peaks up there. They give a great return on the effort expended to reach them.

Thanks for sharing.

PS: The black flies seem to be on a rampage this holiday.

I was on Moosilauke that day. The only place the bugs were mildly annoying was in the parking lot.
