Smile Old Speck and Saddleback-The Horn

A short TR for our first trip in Maine.

Left home early Saturday morning May 22, we arrive early enough for our first summit of Maine, Old Speck. A short hike with a loop and on the summit we had a 360 beautiful view at the top of a tower. I climb it alone, because Annie has vertigo. I have seen many beautiful places to explore and I could see the White Mountains and Mount Washington. Trail conditions was dry and almost no trace of snow.

Sunday morning May 23, we head towards our second destination of our journey, Saddleback, The Horn. I decided to make these two peaks by climbing the ski hill and ascend by ski slopes. We parked in a parking lot near the main building. The climb was very fast and the two peaks also. The weather was on our side and the ridge between those two mountain is superb.

Nice trip in Maine for our 102-103 and 104th of the 115 peaks.

Hard to beat saddleback/The Horn on a clear day, very happy for you two that you got a nice day. Did these last year but from the AT from the south. We ran into some SoBos and one that lived in NJ and practiced for the AT on the Devil's Path. We chatted as we all ate lunch on Saddleback. small world! Nice shots Yvon..

Nice pics Yvon and Annie. I love Saddleback and The Horn, thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories.

Glad you had a nice day. Hoosier and I had one just like it.

Isn't Maine beautiful?

No, no mud between the Horn and Saddleabck. We had mud only on the Tri-Color ski slope.

Maine Hiking

Hi Yvon, We finished the 115 on The Horn. We did them the way you did, up the ski trails. When we were on Saddleback, the Horn didn't look so far away, but we kept going down and down. We stsyed on the summit of the Horn for an hour just thinking of all the great hikes we did to finish the list. You have some great one's left, the Bigelows, Katadin and all the Baxter peaks. Hope the weather is good, have fun. Mike D.
