Lone>Rocky

From the Neversink. No snow until 3500' on Donavans Ridge and then some over to Rocky, knee to thigh deep if you broke thru. Snow down to 3300' on the north slope, then dry ground again unless you fell in the stream.
No snowshoes or other winter gear needed.
Waved to group on Lil'RMAHP
11 hours 3 minutes, which is not quite a record.
Good Day.
I'll let the others fill in the gaps in this story.

And before I forget, we saw one grubby looking bear, and one fine looking Trillium.

A great day once again with great friends.

11 hours 3 minutes ??? Are you sure we only did two peaks ???

All that talk about steak and trout got me really hungry.

Next time this group heads into that valley, I'm bringing my hammock and a pack of hot dogs. When we come down off the mountain and get to the river we are grilling dogs and maybe take a nap.

Yeah, I was saying that there was no way your group would make it out by 5 with all the gabbing and lollygagging that we were sure was going on

Yes we had a great time, Mudhook, Doodles, my friend John, and I. The 3 stooges plus 1. Maria you're right. It's not the first time we've turned a beautiful trip into a lollygagging fiasco! Really had a great day. Started with some wildlife sightings on the drive in through Frost Valley. Bunch of male turkeys trying to impress only two females, a deer almost running along side our car, an immature Bald Eagle in a tree that was attacked by a black bird, and then in the woods... a Black Bear! And that's not counting the time I had with my buds. Always a great time with these guys! The Neversink was a little challenging on the way out but not too bad. Sorry we didn't make it out by 5 but I guess it wasn't a huge surprise. Got a few pics of this beautiful and remote area http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/5...vhost=outdoors

Maybe one peak a day might be more realistic. Happy birthday George, sorry we missed you guys!

These guys "talk the walk" and can "walk the talk". Where things get interesting is when the talking and walking combine. Sooner or later but inevitably the talking causes the walking to cease because they can't talk and walk at the same time. Thank goodness they don't try to chew gum during all this because then I'd doubt if they would get out of the parking area.

When we got down to the Neversink, we just kept admiring the beauty of the area and commenting on campsites, hot dogs, trout and steak dinner by the fire... then we remembered it was getting very late and we still had a bit of a trek ahead of us... and we made ourselves very hungry!

Ok..it's time to do an overnight by the Neversink.

By far, IMHO, the most pleasing environs I've ever experienced.

Hot Dogs, Steaks and Trout. By the fire.

Bring it all.

Hi Alan. I saw the Eagle when driving through Frost Valley. He was at the top of a tree overlooking the West Branch of the Neversink maybe 100 feet from my car. He didn't seem spooked at all, not until a black bird came and attacked him!
