I am a 46er I am a Catskill 35er
West Kill 1/29/06

After 2 weeks in Turks and Caicos we needed to get the hiking legs back--the only vertical there is the top of the dive boat! because of the rainy forecast for the afternoon, we decided on West Kill--
Very little snow down low--a few packed inches on the trail--higher up towards the ridge things improved--maybe 6-10 inches and a nice base on the trail--considering the overcast day,we lucked out with some nice views from Buck Ridge Lookout--barebooted all the way up and used snowshoes for traction on the decent until we ran out of snow--started snowing as we reached the car and then turned to a hard rain--this winter s...ks but it's good to back in the Mts!!

Glad you were able to get out. I finished the 35 on West Kill last year and plan on finishing the winter 35 there in two weeks. Look forward to climbing it for only the second time. Your West Kill pics aren't up yet, but I flipped through some of the other ones. Some nice stuff there, especially the Peekamoose Rd. waterfalls and the Harriman buck.

I think we're all pretty frustrated w/ the sorry excuse for a winter we've been having. Good that you lucked out w/ the views though. Are you two already 35ers, or are you working on 'em, or are you just hiking to hike?

Matt
