Which half was female? Left? Right? Top? Bottom?

I never questioned your writing skills; I just figured you were excited and got confused.
I have wondered about etiquette for these kinds of situations. After my first ascent of Marshall, I was descending the Herbert Brook path when I came upon a couple out on the slab in the brook bed. (My guess is they were unaware they were in the middle of a trail.) The female was half naked, just as you describe, and the male seemed to be performing a really thorough tick inspection or something. Embarrassed, I immediately backed up the trail a bit, thinking perhaps I might wait it out. That was a bad idea; Apparently she was in quite a bit of pain, judging by the moaning and the rather immodest exclamations coming from their direction. "Okay, this is ridiculous," I thought. So I backed-up the trail a little farther, made some noise to give her time to get her pants on, and then proceeded down the trail. An uncomfortable conversation ensued, during which they were trying to guess how much I had seen, and during which I described my agenda for the day, stressing my use of the Herbert Brook Trail, upon which we were standing. [Edit: By the way, I have a really good poker face—except when playing poker.] I also mentioned another party I had met on the summit, a father and daughter team, who would be coming their way soon. I think I got through to them—not sure. Last edited by Gregory Karl; 06-22-2012 at 11:39 PM. |

Who you callin' thick
Congrats on your particularly memorable MacNaughton adventure - especially to bushwhack newbie KEG.

Just before getting to the car, surprisingly, I could hear what the deer-flies were saying to each other: "So this hiker leaves home to make one pointless 18-hour circle without finding any prey, only to return exhausted, dehydrated and sunburned. "hikers are thick today, 'thick in the head' at least..." |

Tick inspection.
![]() We encountered a couple who appeared to be using their bodies to crush the ticks. Our presence brought the tick-crushing session to an abrupt halt. Unlike you, words failed us. They remained at the lookout, we stayed at the summit marker. What do you say to people who have to scratch an itch in the middle of a trail or top of a summit? Go forth and multiply ... elsewhere. Rbalbs, Thanks for the photos! I've never seen a sandwich seasoned with winged peppercorns! |

About a month ago, my group and I went to the Whites and hiked Mt Tecumseh. On the summit were two women and a man, all in their early 20s. They were off the boulder of the summit, and asked my friend if she'd take a group photo of them -- naked. They explained that on every summit, they get in their birthday suits for a group photo.
Like everything else that happens, I find out after the fact! I was busy bandaging up my friend's back at the time. |

I was exploring the Clarendon Gorge over in Vermont recently after a hike and came upon a couple on the rocks, the guy was nude, the chick was not, I didn't stay to chat. I think there's an unwritten code at some swimming places that if you are far enough away from the family area you can go buff. I'm a realist, but I still don't like chillin with the naked dudes in the locker room at the Y.

Our flesh and bone tabernacle seems transparent as glass to the beauty about us, as if truly an inseparable part of it, thrilling with the air and trees, streams and rocks, in the waves of the sun, a part of all nature, neither old nor young, sick nor well, but immortal." Okay, I have one more, with apologies in advance:
My younger brother Lew and I were descending a trail from the Mummy Range (I think it was that hike) in Rocky Mountain National Park. There was a party on horseback on a parallel trail or route, which was out in an open meadow away from the one we were on. We met two guys ascending who told my brother, who was out front, "You better wait, dude, there was some lady fixing to drop a bomb up ahead." Lew asked: "What, on the trail?" (She had come from the meadow, where she and her companions were riding, into the privacy of the forest, not expecting to find a trail, I imagine, but apparently finding it preferable to the bush.) Lew said "I'm not stopping" and just steamed ahead bellowing something like: "No one could possibly be rude enough to be taking a $hi± in the middle of the trail . . . I mean, what kind of animal would do a disgusting thing like that . . ." etc. I had stopped. Later, Lew told me he had chased her right off the trail. I think the moral of these stories is, to paraphrase Lennon and McCartney: "Why don't you [not] do it in the road." |

Forty-sexers.
Where's DSettahr with the DEC's rules and regulations on this topic? Maybe there's a "150 feet from the trail" rule for sexual activities. Nudity in the backwoods is fine by me but I suspect the DEC might have a rule about that. Walk from the Loj to Marcy naked and I'll bet the first ranger you encounter will have something to say. I guess that's why the "French Wedge" was invented! |

They needn't be shy on my account; I think that list makes more sense and sounds more rewarding than the W46, for example. Last edited by Gregory Karl; 06-23-2012 at 11:38 AM. |
