Campsite on Esther?

The ADK map shows a campsite at the junction of 82 and 83. I saw a decal for a campsite, but COULD NOT find the campsite anywhere!

Anyone know where it is/if it actually still exists?

Hmm, that would be near the summit of Marble Mountain. I've never seen on in there either. By decal, do you mean you saw a sign indicating that a campsite was nearby (one of the yellow markers with the arrows indicating the trail to the site) or did you see the actual yellow "camp here" disc?

It must be a newer site, I don't see anything indicated on my ADK map (which is one of the older ones).

Years ago, there was a lean-to on the north side of Whiteface, but that was above the junction for the Esther herd path.

One of my long term goals is to do every High Peak as both a day hike, and separately as part of an overnight. I've done Whiteface as both day hikes and an overnight, but have yet to do Esther as an overnight...

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think I do have dim memories of seeing signs near the summit of Marble Mountain... I looked through my old trip reports, and didn't see any mention of it though. It's been a few years since I've been up that way.

That would not be "semi-legal." Less than 150 feet from the trail, and not designated is still "illegal."

My map shows one at the to p of Marble. I looked for it, found the spot right at the T of the trials but sould not locate a disc marking it as legal. It might be as it was off the trail a bit. There is indeed no water.

I have the 13th edition AMC map which indicates the site near the summit of Marble mountain.

It was a yellow campsite marker with an arrow and it says 'follow signs'. Well, I never managed to find another sign, nor a campsite.

We ended up camping at a non-marked site nearby which has clearly been used in the past as there was a path and a firepit. But it is in the opposite direction of where the arrow is pointing for the campsite and doesn't match where it should be on the map.

It's probably not the one right on the summit that is in the middle of the trail. Generally, the DEC doesn't designate campsites that are right in the middle of the trail.

Be careful with this- just because a site has a fire ring and obviously gets used doesn't mean it's a legal one...

Sounds like the site I found as well, it was at the top with a clear path to it. Since I could not find the disc I did not record it as a legal site (I have been trying to keep a record of them when I find them).
