Does anyone know whether the trail to Pyramid Sawteeth col is closed?? I was planning a loop including Saw, Pyr, Gothics/Lower Range this coming weekend.
The Scenic Trail is closed according to the DEC, but they don't mention the trail coming off the Weld trail:

"The trail from Lower Ausable Lake to Sawteeth - the Scenic Trail - is closed due to firefighting operations on a wildland fire that was started by a campfire. (7/19)" http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9198.html

We went up Gothics via Pyramid today and took the side trip to Sawteeth with no issues.

Unfortunately this fire is still burning as of 7/20. We were watching the chopper dumping water today as we hiked, very sad.

They are working very hard to put this out, but it is burning in the root system and is on a very steep slope, so it is jumping around.

May the men/women working on the fire be kept safe and may the fire be extinquished soon.

I can't believe someone would be so careless as to start a campfire in these hot, dry conditions. I hope you read this thread and can see what destruction and risk to others your careless act has caused.

I hiked C/B 7/15 and you could see the smoke and flames from across the way. Smh.
