This is amazing, that's a lot of land!
Can anyone post a map or image with the location of the new land tract purchases? |

Great news... it will be interesting to see what new trails the state creates. I've got my wish list already... a trail linking Newcomb Lake with the Santanoni Trail... A trail linking Panther Gorge with Boreas Ponds and Wolf Pond...

Are the North River Moutains included in this purchase?

I wonder what this part of the article means: "...access to Mount Allen in the High Peaks Wilderness Area from a parking area and trailhead leading from the neighboring Conservation Easement Lands..." Does this mean a shorter route to Allen?

Great news...there are some wonderful places in this acquisition. I'm glad things finally came together.

Comparing this map:
http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/83963.html with the State Lands Interactive Mapper: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.html (which hasn't been updated to reflect the new acquisition) It looks like this opens a lot of access routes to the North River Range, Mt Andrew, and the western side of the Boreas Range, but falls short of opening Dun Brook. It will be interesting to see what access routes open and what remains closed by hunting leases. |

If the land southwest of Goodnow Flow is part of the deal it might include Dun Brook. From the map of the purchase it is very hard to tell. It was my impression the area where Finch had it's camp was part of the acquisition which would mean an approach from Goodnow Flow area.

Probably... Not being done to make things easier for hikers, but being done to eliminate some bridges, which are expensive to maintain.

What I find more interesting is all the positive statements about this purchase versus all the negative ones in this thread http://www.adkhighpeaks.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=18554
Two sides of the same coin. My gut tells me it must be a good thing but that just may be what I had for lunch...

You have to think LONG term.... like hundreds of years. Don't think short term and current issues and problems.

You Canadians - telling people how to think. We are Americans, we are free to not think.
