46er Survey
I posted this survey on my blog a couple months ago. Have gotten some really interesting and great responses. At some point (probably as a final post, when I'm done with the 46) I'll close the survey and post a summary of the results. In the meantime... if anyone is interested in taking it, would love to hear from as many 46ers and aspiring 46ers as possible!
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J82WSG3 Thanks in advance for your input.

Great responses - thanks to all that have taken the survey!
![]() It will be awhile (a year?) before I close the poll and summarize the results. But if you're curious about the results, PM me your email address and I'll make sure I alert you when it's posted. Or follow the blog.

Thank you and that was fun... I can go on and on... I just love the Adirondacks. It has me thinking of all the fun times and difficult times over the years.
I remember one time I took my son and Nephew to hike Cascade and Porter . My Nephew forgot his shoes . Imagine driving 2+ hours to find that out. Luckily I had a pair of purle and pink sneakers in my trunk and a perfect fit .. yup thats what he had to wear! Your survery inspires memories . Thanks !

Thanks, Blackbear - great story! I bet that was a memorable one for your nephew as well.
I've often worried that I'll do something like forget my boots, as I usually put them on at the trailhead. So far, so good!

Fun survey - I once got to the trailhead (after a 6 hour drive) with one boot. Not good. Had to hike in a borrowed, ill-fitting pair of sneakers.

Thanks! Nothing worse than hiking the high peaks in ill-fitting footwear

Thanks, Stamper. Well, my initial plan was to leave the survey open until next summer until I finish the 46, and then to have my final blog post be the survey results. However, I just learned (thanks to lots of people from here!) that once you hit 100 responses you have to pay a monthly fee in order to get the results... so I will be closing it one month from now. If anyone hasn't participated who wishes to, it will be open for just a few more weeks. And thanks so much to all who have... the more responses, the more interesting the stats, so I really appreciate everyone's input! I'll be sure to alert everyone here when I do tabulate the results.

The last day to take part in this survey will be September 15. Just wanted to put one more chance out there for folks who haven't taken it to participate if they'd like - the more input, the more interesting the results, of course. There are close to 150 responses so far...
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J82WSG3 Will be closing it down on September 16 and cancelling the Survey Monkey account before they charge me for another month. Will summarize/tabulate/post some great stats collected from this survey at some point before winter - probably in November.

Done! Great questions. I too look forward to the results.
Blackbears story reminds me of the time I got off the train In Garrison, NY on the Hudson, to hike the trails near there, only to discover that I was wearing two different hiking boots: one brown, one black. I grabbed them in the dark and never noticed until I was stepping off the platform. |

Wow, what did you do - did you hike with two different boots?! I'd imagine that wouldn't be too good for your feet, or easy when you're trying to step evenly/not trip!

Well immediately I wanted to fix it, but there wasn't anything to do, other than just wait for the next train home. Luckily the two boots were not drastically different enough to greatly affect my stride or balance. One was a Timberline Snow Basin boot, which I wear as an urban boot in the winter, not for hiking. It is waterproof though. The other was a Hi-Tek Altitude IV boot. I wound up doing a 9 mile hike without any problem, but I wouldn't want to repeat this error again.
