Panther, or The 4 Seasons ...
Is in the books for Laurie!
![]() I still need a few more, but that's what I get for following a gridiot around. Panther was HOT today, and we did it the hard way, from Fox Hollow, but we got 'er done! There is no water, so bring your own. The trail is less used than the 47 approach, but in pretty good shape, thanks to a recent trail clearing by a crew calling themselves 'The Interns' (AFRs?). Anyway, thanks! ![]() And oh BTW, I love you baby!

Thanks! I think it may have been a clerical error that the box was not filled in for Panther for summer. Tom and I had not been up the Fox Hollow route together before and I had not been that way in years. I did recall the long level area with nettles though - so I think I was there in the summer before. What I was thinking about was the last time I did that trail in winter - or anything else I could think of that was a cold thought - it was way hot out there yesterday!
This morning, a quick jaunt up to Diamond Notch lean-to with the Grandkids is planned - they are gridding the lean-tos! I haven't looked at my grid numbers in a while.........it will happen someday. |

Glad to hear some kind of crew got to the fox hollow area. I started to count the blowdown when I hiked it post-irene and kind of lost count. The good thing was that most of the blowdown was between the leanto and the trailhead...
Congrats on the 4-seasons Laurie! Jay

Congrats to Laurie !
![]() Tom thanks for the trail report. Any good views on that part of the trail below Panther ? How about any tent sites a mile or two in pass the lean-to ? Did you notice the lean-to ? I hike up to the lean-to last week and saw the lean-to has a couple of large holes in the floor and a leaning right wall. Not in good condition but it was very clean. Thanks Mike...

There could be some camping spots along the way, as the trail spends quite a long time around 2400-2600' virtually flat. There might be legal camping on the first false summit, but I'm not sure. It sounds like we should put the leanto on our work list. Thanks for the report. I assume it has a maintainer, we can check with the coordinator. At least getting materials there would not be difficult.

The thought struck me, but we really should talk to the trail maintainer and the ranger in the area...
