Went walking again on Friday. Haven't been on the computer until now to write up a report. It's sure to be very boring.

I hope someone will correct me if I misuse any apostrophes'...

Seems like slide climbing is all the rage and a very fashionable thing to do these days. In planning a hike my partner for the day, Eric, would balk at my original plan of going to Cliff and Redfield. He also didn't seem very interested in my back up plan of Algonquin and Iroquois but when I mentioned Lower Wolf Jaw he seemed to respond. LWJ it would be...

We would be paying to park at the Garden. We got there around 8am. We started hiking a few minutes later. A few minutes after that we would see a beautiful large deer. Even though I had carried a pistol instead of a first aid kit I decided I didn't want to drag the deer all the way up and over the mountain so I showed some restraint and kept it holstered. We also saw some reptiles and amphibians but I didn't shoot them either.

We crossed over the southside trail. Could tell the day would be hot as it was almost steamy in the woods already. Was hoping I had carried enough fluids. The section of the southside trail that has been washed out was pretty impressive but nothing compared to what was to come.

Strolling along Eric asked when we might come to the slide. The words were still hanging in the air when in front of us was the answer. Wow. No trouble finding the slide. Up we went taking in the scene of such natural power was almost overwhelming. These slide climbers knew what they were doing. This is way cooler than hiking. Hope I could make it without rock shoes...

We worked our way up taking pictures and turning around every few steps to take in the spectacular views. The sun was warm but the breeze kept it comfortable and for the most part kept the bugs away. That was until the bees swarmed. Hundreds. Good thing I'm such a good shot and had carried plenty of ammo cuz I started shooting them out of the air left and right. Eric looked a little nervous when I told him to hold still and then shot one off his forehead. After a frenzied few minutes I was blowing the smoke from the barrel of my gun just like in the movies.

Putting the gun back in the holster my right arm suddenly was siezed by cramps. At first I suspected it was because I hadn't been doing much shooting lately but then I quickly realized I hadn't had anything to drink yet. The beverages I had carried didn't have much in the way of electrolytes but fortunately at that moment I looked to the edge of the slide and saw the most unexpected of things:

A dairy cow.

After a glass of warm milk my cramps subsided. Of course, now I needed a nap. As I was trying to sleep the black flies and deer flies started in. Out came the sidearm and a few minutes later I was rolling around on the ground begging Eric to get me another glass of milk. After the second glass we decided it was better to keep moving.

Anyone notice the stains on the rocks of the slides? What causes these?

Near the top of the slide both of us got ourselves into positions that felt a little precarious. Didn't last long. From the top of the slide it was a short bushwhack to the trail and a two minute walk to the summit. Views were better from the slide. Enough so that we considered going back down it.

We took the trail down which ended up being a fine choice. The slide near the lean-to displayed more power and changes that took place last fall. Being in that shelter when the slides were coming down would have been terrifying. Not sure even my trusty weapon would have done any good. Since we were at the lean-to I emptied all the extra canned goods out of my pack in case anyone needed them. No sense in me carrying them out.

We continued down. Crossing the bridge at the Interior Outpost and heading out the trail checking out the relocated lean-tos. We finally started seeing people packing in as we were headed out. Two young ladies appeared nervous when Eric asked where they were headed. At first I thought it was because my hand was on my weapon but then noticed it was my other hand they were looking at. No wedding ring. Or maybe it was just my imposing presence?

Back at the car in early afternoon Eric offered to buy beers at the Ausable. Somehow I ended up buying the beers and the lunch? Yes, I was out of bullets.

I do just want to add a quick apology here. To the owners of the dog I shot. I am sorry. I didn't have a sandwich. I told your dog this. He would not listen...

Those questions are kinda personal aren't they? Not to mention inappropriate for this family forum?

I really wish you would bring a camera (or take pictures with your phone), a photographic (no it doesn't say pornographic) trip report from you would be exceptional.

Was a Hammock involved in any way?

It's possible the cow had been using a hammock. I was a little out of it at that point...

I can see it now...a couple unsuspecting hikers moving along and a giant avalanche of rock and mud bearing down on them. Just when it looks like they are doomed I fire off several warning shots to alert them to the danger and they move out of the way. Yet again my trusty firearm saves lives.

Think it can't happen?

It's a 44 magnum. Can't I just pulverize the rocks as they come towards me?

You knock it off. Doesn't everyone have a "sister" fantasy?

So asking for the version wordy
was misconstrued instead as dirty.
Now the forum misters
Talk of fantasy sisters--
and the family forum has turned flirty!
