Black mt near Lake George on 5/18

Another beautiful day, if you like sunburn and the begining of "digging black flies out of your ears" season....just kidding, really was a good one...Black mt. is only 20 mins from home and is climbed often by myself...over 70 times in the last 3 years...first time this year though and there were a few surprises...a new gate near the start of the trail and the addition of more crushed stone so that there are zero wet issues till the foot trail starts...from there to the summit though is fairly wet and muddy in spots and there is quite a bit of blow down on the last 1/3 of a mile or so...more than I have ever seen on this low peak...trees of all sizes, completely blocking the trail in spots and side trails are forming, some out by the roots and others broken off...still a great hike, a few Bflies, but not bad yet...though it's far away from the high peaks, it's nice to be able to see them to the NW on a clear day and be able to pick out some of my favs and not be too far from home... this is my first post on this site, though I have been watching youz guyz for years while posting on hikeadks.com
Hi Ed...David S. chewing up the high peaks...

I love Black. Probably do it a half dozen times a year these last 20 years. Ok.so I cheat cuz its so close, but that doesn't mean it isn't an awesome place. Most folks go up from Pike Brook, but the exciting way is from Bk. Mtn . Pt on Lake George. Anyone wants to go up the west side let me know and we'll make it happen.

I somehow havent been to black mt point yet. Agree the trail to the summit is so much nicer from that side than from the east.

FH, I'll be going up there soon if you are interested. Its about a 40 minute cruise up to the trailhead in the boat.

Ive been meaning to get over to Black. Guess we'll have to give it a shot soon. Much easier drive than the HP.

Nice area, and you can rack up quite a bit of mileage, views and ascent without things getting too contrived.

The only time I ever hiked Black a number of years ago was from the lake side. Fun little hike and some great views down to the lake. Can't wait to get up to the ADKs next weekend!
