I'm not at all surprised. I camped out in Harriman (at the William Brien memorial shelter) 2 weekends ago, and everything was dry as a bone.

There was also a brush fire on the northway earlier this week.

I bet we'll continue to see fires regularly around the northeast until mid-may, when green out finally happens. The weather service has been issuing fire watches for a few weeks now... I wouldn't be surprised to see backcountry campfire bans in the coming weeks as well.

Very dry everywhere. Down my way, there have been 2 wildfires in the NJ pinebarrens which have affected 400 acres (supposed to be arson) and another wildfire in Penna by French Creek State Park which is under control but still smoldering that has affected 500 acres.

They've got the fire contained (but not controlled).

Was this put out? There hasn't been any recent news that I could find since the news that the fire was contained...
