some firsts for me this year

Number 1--- haven't worn snowshoes for 7 peaks this winter

Number 2-- finally wore microspikes for a full hike.

Number 3--- after 3 years of carrying crampons used them for entire hike this past saturday

This year surley has been odd so far. Wonder what mother nature has in store for the future months. ?

This has been a weird winter.

An early January thaw is not at all uncommon, though- I can remember 3 or 4 winters in the past 5 or 6 years that we had one. January 2007- all of the snow melted while I was on a 10 day trip through the West Canada Lakes. January 2008- incredibly warm temperatures, accompanied with high winds when winter decided to make it's triumphant return. January 2011- All of the snow melted just after New Years. Ended up using crampons all day on Colvin and Blake due to the ice when everything solidified again.

Winter typically doesn't get going strong until mid January anyways. This season so far has been a bit warmer and with less precipitation than normal for sure, though.
