Phelps Mt. 3/19/10
Wonderful day to hike!!! No wind, plenty of snow pack, temps in the
50's/60's, bright sun, great clear views on top. Didn't encounter any problems with snow sticking to our snowshoes, which we wore the entire trip (MSR's). No bare spots, no running water on trail, and no ice patches at all on trail. Hiked in a short sleeve shirt entire trip - doesn't get much better than this for a March hike. Took my daughter who was home from college on spring break, and my 13 year old son (his 1st "winter" hike). All in all an outstanding day to be on the trails. Encountered two other hikers on the Phelps trail, and some skiers heading to Marcy. |

You picked a great day for a hike Bob. Doreen and I took the dogs up Little Porter from the Garden. As you said, shirt sleeve day (except on top of the ledges of LP because of the wind). Definitely needed snowshoes the entire hike.
Say hello to Bridgette and Connor for me. Jeepers, Bridgette is in college? Time sure flies.
