How has the trails faired out in the Cats>? Do they drain well and stay less muddy?

The Catskills are far less muddy than the Adirondacks. There are typically muddy areas (e.g., Kaaterskill High Peak loop) and short wet sections on some trails. But overall mud is not a big problem. The northern Escarpment trail stays especially dry.

Yes, whole different soil and rock type; drains better, less mud.

Every time I hike in the Catskills, the mileage and the elevation increase!
