  • Best Views from Ashokan Reservoir

I'll be in the area doing some hiking in mid-August and I really want to get some nice photos of the Cats from a few different points along the edge of the Ashokan Reservoir. But it's a pretty large body of water. Any recommendations on good spots to soak in some views?

Go to Shokan, turn left (if you're coming from Kingston), cross reservoir, turn left, turn left, then leave 28A with the next left. Its the paved section of dam on the south side that runs east and west. You can check out the aerator first, on one end of it, sort of (short side trip--left after crossing reservoir, then right and right. After checking out the long paved section, you can continue on 28A and see the spillway, and then you might as well take 28A the rest of the way back to Kingston, depending on where you're coming from.
    I might be kidding...

On your way back to Kingston on route 28A, after you pass Dug Hill Road on the right, bear left, and you will be right next to the reservoir.
