  • Titus Canyon - Death Valley NP

It may be a driving road but it still packs plenty of adventure into its 27 miles of road. I would highly recommend taking some time to explore this drive if you can, and also because it leads to some pretty great slot canyons in an otherwise pretty quiet corner of the park. 10/10 would drive again!

Death Valley is a pretty awesome place, huh? I was just out there for a couple of days and thought is was amazing. Dante's View is another cool drive, the view is down almost 6k feet to the badwater basin and right back up 11k to Telescope Peak, absolutely wild topography. We goofed around on the salt flats and hiked up Desolation Canyon and then camped up in Emigrant Canyon. We wanted to climb Telescope but it looked like conditions would be a bit much considering the only footwear I brought was a dull pair of microspikes. We ended up climbing neighboring Wild Rose peak, which tops out a bit over 9k, and was bare-bootable. Really interesting views and the long drive up Emigrant Canyon road was incredible; Death Valley is a big, big place and I would love to get back and spend more time there.

It sure is! This was my third trip there and it really never gets old. Its my second favorite park after Zion and it has so much to offer. I have really only scratched the surface. One of these days I will get around to climbing Telescope peak. I also need to check out Emigrant Canyon. This time around the only major hike we did was a trip into Palmer Canyon which is a small slot canyon just past Fall Canyon. It seems like there is never enough time to see everything you want to.

DV is pretty awesome, here's my failed attempt up Telescope. When the trail vanishes into the mist and you've got no spikes and non-technical rain(snow) gear, it's time to turn back.
