  • Gathering 2017 peak list. Get 'em while their hot!

Date of event: March 18, 2017

    UPDATE From Neil 3/15

I recommend we stop attempting to complete the list and that people quickly form bigger teams and do whatever they want. As an example I believe there's a solo hiker signed up for Allen. He may wish to join Sylvie and I on Cascade. Or Sylvie and I might decide to join the team doing Wright. etc. etc. In any case, it would be best if everyone posts their intentions here and I will maintain the list for reference.

We want everyone to make it to the celebration not necessarily the summit. Your safety is our primary concern

Here is a list of the 46 High Peaks divided into easy-medium-hard.

To those who have claimed summits and to those who will be claiming summits over the next days and weeks:
Please indicate by which trail-head and route you plan on doing your peak. This will help in the pooling of trail-breaking efforts if necessary.

For example if you are doing RPR you might not want to go from New Russia after three feet of snow. You would want to contact the group leader for Giant and start out together from the trail-head so that you can alternate trail breakers all the way up the ridge trail.

Or, if you plan on Nippletop you can organize with whomever is doing Dial and determine whether you are best to do them separately, travel as a team, or each do both peaks but in opposite directions.
Easy for some, hard for others.

I actually get to play along this year...I'll take Iroquois. Whoever is doing Algonquin and/or Wright get in touch with me and we can tackle them together if you want. I do plan to go over Algonquin to meet my objective.

          How tentatively? 50%, 90%, 10%?

I'd say 85-90% is fair. Will confirm shortly.

I will be hiking Whiteface Mountain via the Reservoir trail for the Gathering weekend, with my wife and at least two other people. We may be adding more to our hike later.

Damn! I have to work, again that weekend. Any way to get an advanced schedule of the gatherings?
Nothing like being in the woods.

so many choices, I'm waiting for the " good " ones. In the meantime a few extra helpings of purely pinole super food of the Tarahumara endurance runners.

No, it is not done any more than a few months in advance.

Haha, I decided not to do anything crazy this winter, but want to make sure I get to see some of you guys at the gathering. Will see what's left to pick!

Made it to the Summit of Allen and we had a big group. 14 in the group I was with and additional groups from 2-5 members. Great day to hike. Did not get out until 8:30 so missed the party.

What's the ground look like up there? Snow? Snowshoes needed? Down here in southern New England there's not a flake to be seen.

Lots of snow and snowshoes required.
