Very interesting and impressive! Can I ask was that an average week or was that a peak training week? Definitely seems difficult with the mixture of max strength lifts and zone 3 workouts.

That was a peak week. I was going to follow it with an easy week and really kill it for 2-3 more but then I wrenched my knee and had to take a 2-week break. Training programs never go the way you plan them. You get sick, you need an unplanned rest, stuff comes up etc. The book I'm following says that fatigue will accompany you through the training and you will not perform at your best. Hence the need to taper before starting the real thing.

I usually do just one max strength workout per week (wed.) sandwiched in between the muscular endurance/Zone 3 workouts (tues, thurs) then I hike usually fri-sat-sun and take Monday off. When hiking I often get into Z 2 and 3 but overall I'm mostly in Z1. Doing the Max Strength and ME workouts on 3 consecutive days is not the best way to go but it seems to work OK for me. probably because I only do 2k feet of elly and the load is light. I'm just about ready to begin tapering.

Zones relate to the intensity of exercise and are a function of one's heart rate as a percentage of maximum. Click image for larger version

I use an inexpensive Garmin Forerunner HRM. I paid $80 for it.
