Wore snowshoes all day...thinnish coating of snow over ice from Loj to dam. It was skiable, mostly, and saw lots of ski tracks headed toward Avi Camps on my way back. Still rocks and roots sticking up here and there. I was up this way exactly a month ago and for the record, conditions have vastly improved. Trail to Phelps was a little bony in places down low, no bare ground, but negotiating around rocks, roots, etc., a bit annoying at times. Had to watch your steps. There was about 4-5" of new snow after the rain/ice event and another lone hiker broke that out ahead of me.

Saw lots of bareboating tracks today...it's sucks that we can't have nice things. Rangers need to hand out about a dozen tickets, then word will get around. Most people won't wear them because it's the right thing to do.

Chose Phelps today because it faces east and that west wind was not friendly. It was cold today. Very cold.
