From HPIC with Highonlife and Trek4DM. VeggieLasagna joined our group to Marcy starting around Indian Falls. We chatted with Rockbiter at the Stewarts in Keene.

About an inch of new snow had fallen. Much of the trail surface is frozen. Conditions are widespread ice covered wth a little snow. We wore microspikes starting a little way after crossing Phelps Brook all the way to Marcy Summit. On the back side of Marcy a long stretch had dry rock to the base of Schofield Cobble were the spikes could be removed. Returning by Lake Arnold trail the boggy area wasn't too bad until the last step going north. Ice had frozen the timber through most of the worst part. Be careful with the last step north or the first step south as the ice there is thin. If you've a keen eye a submerged timber can be found that will get you safely onto the rest of the frozen bog bridges. A one log wide bridge further on was too tilted for our liking and there we rock hopped the Opalescent. I took off the spikes on returning to Avalanche Camp junction. Highonlife and Trek4DM work the spikes all the way back to the parking area.
