  • Conditions near JBL Marcy and Range Trail

Looking to hike in from the Garden and go for my last couple winter 46 (Marcy, Haystack, Basin, Saddleback). Anyone have any updates on the trails through this area? Doesn't look like there has been a ton of snow. It'll be cold tomorrow, but not the worst since the wind will be relatively low.

There is a ton of snow.

Breaking trail to Upper WolfJaw and Armstong was brutal, thigh-high snow with even higher drifts.

I was the JBL Winter Host this weekend. Haystack was broken up to the base of Little Haystack. Two guys spent the night at the Orebed Lean-to on Saturday night, but I didn't get to talk to them, so I have no idea where they went. There is about 3' of sugar snow at 3800'. It's unconsolidated.

Breaking trail is a right of passage for aspiring winter 46ers. Enjoy!
