  • High Peaks Without A Car - A Comprehensive Guide

In my attempt to go back and finish the 46, I think I've looked at every possible way to get there. Might as well share it for anyone else who might end up in a similar situation. All schedules and prices are accurate as of June 2017, and likely quite a bit longer than that as most of these are not well-traveled routes

    From Western NY (Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse):

Transfer to shuttle bus to Keene (2:35pm) and Lake Placid, (2:50pm) via 9N and 73. (based on prior experience, the shuttle will drop you anywhere on its route and is sometimes willing to detour for a drop off at South Meadow Rd or NPT north trailhead after Lake Placid)

Return trip (Daily including Sunday): Lake Placid (Olympic Center) at 12:15pm, shuttle to Westport to catch the train leaving at 2:20pm southbound to Albany

Considering the inordinate amount of time I wasted figuring all this out to try to get a semi-reasonable path to 46, I figured I should share it as a last piece of knowledge to give to this forum. Just in case I'm not the only one with no hiker friends, no license, and a few peaks left on their list.

      Sorry.
