Welcome, Daniel!

We had a nice time with you on Cascade (and at the Ark). :)

I hadn't noticed, did it rain on Saturday? Hmmm, guess I must have missed it. HA, I WISH!

It was great to meet you! Until next time....

Hey Daniel! Pretty awesome to have you on the forum. You'll have to be careful and only post real serious stuff on here, just like your dad!

For a kid who had to be forced to come this weekend you did real well, soloing Cascade. Your mom and I couldn't catch up with you allthough we recognized your blue gaitor aid in the snow!

So, how do you like hiking, now?

Like SOLO (Daniel) I had a great time at the Ark and on the trail. It seemed like everyone I met on the trail Saturday was someone I knew. Saturday evening at the Ark was soooo nice. The atmosphere in that dining room was pure magic. It didn't matter where and beside whom a person sat down, the company and conversation was fantastic. And the food... :drop: holy smokes was that good, or what?
As I tucked into another helping of delicious food I kept thinking of what it would have been like to hike all day in the rain and then set up camp in a lean-to.

The kids were in and out like a flash and spent most of the evening in the games room doing what kids do best: having fun.

There was not a single false note during the whole weekend and it was obvious that the people in attendance were gathering veterans. People kept thanking me for organising the weekend but really, with such a crew as we had it wasn't much of a job.

Anyone interested in next year...?

There is one thing I had thought of a couple of weeks ago that I regret forgetting to follow up on. I was going to suggest passing a hat so as to leave a tip for our hosts who did a lot of extra work for no extra charge. I left a 20 in my room but it would have been nice to offer them something a little more substantial.

A phenomenal idea. If you want, it's not to late. I'd (and I bet others) would be willing to donate $10 bucks or so. I can send it to you. A few other parties do that and we can send off a nice little "THANK YOU" card to the Ark from the Adkhighpeaks.com crew. Two purposes really, 1) It is surely a well deserved jesture to them for their "extra work". and 2) It will "grease the wheels" for Adkhighpeaks Winter 2.0 next year, which I am surely interested in.

The setup was perfect, and Neil was dead on about the participants. It's almost erie how comfortable and at ease I feel at these events, even with people I've never met, other than on here. I'd list highlights, but to be honest, I'd be here all day. The food was out of this world. Plus Gabby (the old German woman that was running the kitchen) said I was handsome and looked like George Clooney. ;) Come to think of it, she was obviously working me for a good tip, I better up my donation significantly for that one. :D

You pretty well said it all Neil.... A year is a long time to wait though!

Yes! a Great weekend with very congenial hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel at home and I will be sending my offering and thankyou note today.

It was fun meeting and hiking with both new and old faces.

Nice to meet you Daniel! Quite a Les Paul guitar collection. Do you play?

I agree on that. Neil, I can send you some cash too.

That said, I would like to thank you all, that was my first hiking gathering (beer night's don't count, they're just too easy) and EVERYBODY was so nice to me, I really enjoyed talking and hiking with all of you.

Hope there will be a 2.0, I will be there.

I'll take CDN $ to the bank and exchange it for real money before taking it to the Ark. It's great to see the all positive responses regarding this.

All kidding aside, if he's dum....... errrrrr..... generous enought to lead the charge, I'm all for it. We'll send some in.

Plus Gabby (the old German woman that was running the kitchen) said I was handsome and looked like George Clooney. ;)

Hey, My sister thought the same thing :) and after a second closer look, they are right, you kinda do look like Clooney, now ADKatie will have to keep your enlarging head in check ;)

Thanks everyone for such a great time. It was nice to put faces with names that already feel like old friends. Though I didn't get any peaks this weekend, I introduced my sister to winter hiking and she says she will go again so it was a success. Special Thanks to Neil for organizing (I will drop a check in the mail for a tip), Prino for lending my sister his stabilizers, literally off his feet, what a gentleman and daxs for lending her a pair of poles.

Till next time,

Yesterday, when Ward and I were driving back, we talked about how we forgot to leave anything $$ in the room. On the way to work, I sent "The Staff" a Thank You note with a ten spot. I thought the place, the staff and all the forum members were great. And the food.....where else can you go and hike for three days and still gain 5 pounds!

Just checkin' in to agree that it was another fine gathering. Great place to gather and thanks again to Neil. Fun, fun time! For those that missed it, there was a typical range of beings from young (5yrs) to aged (not saying) and willingness to go along to make everyone's weekend delightful. Everone pretty much behaved??

TeeJay and I had discussion on the way home about tipping and nuclear physics. ...on the tipping subject, I'll send over some greenbacks. Okay, Okay.................. Look, I didn't say it. The Frau Gabby did, who obviously was just trying to make an impression. For the record I don't believe it for a minute.

So go ahead, tease me all you want, but just remember, at the end of the day.......... When it comes to German women in their mid-70's, there is nothin' quite so hot.............. as Mavs double-ott. :whip:
