...Hunter.

Had plans to hike SW Hunter on Thursday and it rained, then Friday but did Graham instead, so finally today we got up there. There were a few inches of fresh snow covering everything. We could use a few more to make good snowshoeing. The new snow did make everything look nicer and was enough that we put on snowshoes hoping the snow would get deeper as we went up. It only got a little deeper but we wore them all the way up and down until the last half mile when they became snowball collectors. I actually wore my old Tubbs for the first time since breaking them two years ago and buying a pair of MSRs. Now the MSRs need repair so I was back in the Tubbs. A couple had barebooted the first almost mile but turned around at the junctions. We could see old tracks headed up covered in the new snow. The trail up was rough due to the thin snow cover. There are some wet spots as well. At the view on the way up we could see that clouds were covering the tops of the mountains but could see down into the snow covered trees. When we got to where we follow the railbed we first followed some old track that left the trail too early. We soon realized the mistake and whacked through to intersect the correct route. What was left of the snowshoe track was faint and the new snow was bending trees into the path but it was pretty easy to follow. The path from the railbed to the cannister was faint enough to lose a few times. We were shocked to see that people had been there yesterday and the day before. Someone had noted in the cannister that it was snowing while they were there so after they left their tracks got covered pretty well. A great way to start the new year. Hiking with Charlene and Dali in fresh snow!
