View Full Version : Sawteeth Mountain
Rik And I Left Corinth Early For A Short Hike Today Sawteth. We Got To The Trail Head About 6:50sh. No One Was Signed Out For Sawteeth. The Road Was Well Packed Down With Ice And Little Snow. Not Enough For Snow Shoes. By The Time We Got To The Ausable We Put On Our Snow Shoes. This Was My First Experience With My New Msr's. I've Worn Tubbs For 3 Years Size 30. They Have Been Discontinued. I Had To Stop Wearing Them Because The Strap That Goes Around The Top Part Of My Shoe Was Creating To Much Pressure And I Would Get This Lump Aroung The Tendons Of My Left Foot. So I Had To Make A Change. I Was Glad That I Did, I Can't Say Enough Abut The Msr's. After Some Time Figureing Them Out I Was Ready To Move. The Trail Was Well Packed Down, Really Didn't Need Snow Shoes But Wore Them Any Way. The Scenic Trail Is Not Broken Out. The Day Was Smooth. The Weather Was Nice, The Sun Was Trying To Come Out But Just Didn't Make It. Took A Sandwhich Break At The Cole Between Pyramid Mt And Sawteeth. The Views On Top Were Just Great, Marcy Was Glowing, On The Other Side You Could Easily See Dix And The Beckhorn, Even Without Sun. Clouds Were Low Behind Giant And Rocky Peak Ridge, You Could See Right Over Them Across The Champlain. This Trail Made For Some Great Butt Sliding. On The Way Out A Lot Of Cross Country Skiing Going On, Busy Road. Back To The Car At About 1:00pm.
Great morning out. Missed Bushwhacker who was signed in for Wedge Brook and Randomscooter was signed in for Dial/Nip. Small world these winter peaks. The low clouds over Champlain with Vermont peaks behind them was spectacular!

Rik, I'm assuming it was you who left the note for me in the register? It was a good day to be out in the hills.

Wasn't me. I noticed your name in the register on the way out and then saw your jeep in the lot but I didn't leave a note.

What a difference a day (or two) makes. Julie and I were there a few days ago. Our plan was to ski the road, ditch the skis, climb Sawteeth, then ski out. The road was in horrible condition for skiing. It had been warm previously, lots of feet steps chewed things up, then it froze into hard bumps. Poor grip. So much so, that it was harder/slower on skis than it would have been bareboot or with snowshoes. Our hopes were that with the warming day, it would soften up for the ski out.
Climbing sawteeth, we had some views throguht the trees on the way up, but as we reached the summit, everything disappeared. We got down, and the road was still hard bumpy ice, so we didn't even ski out.
