Has anyone hiked Mt. Abraham in ME via the Fire Warden's Trail recently? I'm trying to find out info about the conditions of the logging roads to the trailhead. I've heard the bridges might be out.
Thanks.

Hey Jen,
I've been speaking to a friend from NH that has very good beta on the area and he advised against the logging roads. He said it is an easy whack up from Caribou Pond to the AT and from the maps it looks it. It is also a short whack. He said from the pond you can see the col. I will send you the Nat'l Geo Map with the route on it for your viewing pleasure and you can decide from that.
This is the way we are going to go.
If I didn't have that meeting Sat night I would be going with you Jen? Leave me good karma on the summit. :)
Cindy
You are going this coming week, correct?

Originally I was only going to do NE 100's but I was thinking of trying to get Abraham or another 4000 summit while I'm there. I'll take a look at the map tonight. Wish your were coming. Sure you don't want to skip your meeting?

Can't skip the meeting, they only have 4 a year to begin with. :)
NE 100's....you're a peakbagger girl, you go get them 4000'. :D You only work on 100's when all the 4000's are done.
Wish I could join you too. Have a fun and safe trip!!!

my wife and I hiked Abraham a week ago via the wardens trail. The logging roads to the trailhead are no problem. You will have to park before the bridge at Rapid Stream unless you have a high clearance vehicle to hop onto the bridge but from this point it's a quick 10 min walk to the start of the trail that leads into the woods. from the parking spot at the Rapid stream bridge you will cross to bridges and hang a right marked by a cairn my wife and I built. continue down that logging road and you will see the sign and trail going into the woods at the t-intersection. It's a quick 4 hourround trip and the slide area with all the loose rock is pretty cool. A very nice summit indeed. Hope this helps. Enjoy thehike:D

the bridges are very well intact and supported by large steel I-beams. Theres an awesome 4-5pool at the rapid stream bridge we used to swim at and cool off after our hike. If it's a nice day this was a great finish to a verynice hike
