What kind of hiking related gear are all you getting this year?
-Coal is not considered hiking gear, even though in a pinch it might be used to keep warm. ;)
Me: nothing probably, cause as a new homeowner, I'm getting all house-related stuff like silverware, pots, pans, vacuum cleaners, etc...
However, I did buy myself a soft shell and some schoeller snow pants from STP a short time ago...

I guess I've been a good girl this year, because I am getting a S-Lander Suunto watch.

I don't really need anything, so it'll be nothing.
Well, I guess I could use a new pair of knees, but I'm pretty sure I won't get that.

She won't tell me! I mean Santa won't say.
Oh no you didn't............................
Just what are you implying ??? As for hiking gear, hmmmmmm, I don't know. Possibly a replacement GPS unit. The old one still works, but I beat the crap out of it so bad that I'm looking to get a newer model (it's 3-4 years old).
The bigger thing is that I'm actually hiking in the Adirondacks on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I hope Santa brings his crampons in order to find me in the High Peaks.

ASKING for a Mountain Hardwear Alchemey Softshell and Black Diamond Sabertooth Crampons w/ ABS Plates :D
Id be happy with a few more feet of snow :bang:
So far all I'm getting is a list of chores that need doing.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, a new GPS, randonee ski equipment, full ice climbing gear, a neg 40 down sleeping bag, a 4 ounce satellite phone, a new camera, down-filled pants and a partridge in a pear tree.

New wrists. Snip, snip.
My family is clueless as to what to buy me for hiking so I know I won't get gear from them. I bought myself a 3 week trekking trip in Patagonia. I start in Argentina and end up in Punta Arenas Chile. I can't wait :D

I hope a GPS unit is the only thing you feel this way about or ADKatie may be in trouble... ;)

Daxs, Yes, +1 for the jealous crowd. I'd like to do some kayaking down there too..
I bought a $99 Craftsman hammer drill recently as I just closed on a house almost a month ago. It's very handy! :)

I am excited about my trip. I leave on feb 18 for Buenos Aries and return home on the 5th of march via Santiago Chile. so not quite 3 weeks. I will take lots of pictures and post a trip report when I get home. I do not know another soul going on this trip so its a great chance of meeting hiking buddies from around the country. Also, All I need to carry each day is my day pack. Everything else is moved by someone else or something else! The only gear I need to bring, other than personal stuff, is my own sleeping bag. WOOHOO.
BTW, I own a Dewalt cordless drill and I do not even own a house.
Jay, I seem to remember you went to Alaska followed by Mt Rainier last summer. I was drooling and jealous over that trip. Ok, I was on part of the trip. But not the Alaska part...Maybe next year.

Daxs,
What outfit did you book your trip through? I have a friend who is now strictly a guide in Alaska but was thinking about guiding trips to Patagonia. Unfortunately for me, he decided to stick to Alaska trips. In fact, my first trip to Alaska was with him. Hell of a lot of fun! You need to get there!
I can't wait to see your pics when you return. You will defintely meet some great folks on the trip, I'm sure!
Ah, you may own a DeWalt cordless drill, but do you own an 18volt cordless Hammer Drill. (Tim Taylor grunting in the background) LOL My current cordless drill is a 9 volt Makita hand-me-down from my father who is a builder... The sucker is only 10 years my junior!

My Craftsman is a 19.2v hammer drill... OOOOOOOGGGAAAAHHHHH... It has a funky light thing when you fire the thing up, a light shines on where you're accidentally drilling into a 120v romex cable..
As far as Alaska, always love to go, but funds will be tight for me the next...um 20 years. Unless we can convince Ed to make 2008's climbing trip to do Mt Churchill or Mt Bora in Wrangell St. Elias, my favorite National Park out of them all.

Daxes. Make sure you take care of your camera. Keep it well wrapped in plastic. Gotta get those pictures back.
I don'T know what brand my cordless drills are. I have two. A high speed, and a high torque. The brand names have worn off. They are rather old. Anyone know the brand?

They are first generation cordless drills.

Har, har, har.....
Yo jay...do you think it's really safe for you to be using power tools? A 120v romex cable???
Have you been to McCarthy while out in Wrangell St. Elias???

Who needs power tools, I'm certified deadly with a toothbrush..

Yup, we drove to McCarthy before our fly-in. Spent a half day on the Root glacier with St. Elias guides cause we didn't have crampons, so they provided them with the rental guide. Strange enough, our guide Bonnie was originally from Mass and was familiar with the White mtns so that was cool.
I also did a tour of the mill building at Kennecott Mines which was excellent, highly recommended.
We stayed at the Backpacker's Hostel in McCarthy and our fly in was by Wrangell Mt. Air which is also highly recommended. Kelly and Natalie Bay are professional, nice, and knowledgeable.

All I really want is to spend some quality time with my 46er correspondent on Christmas Eve. You know, thanking him for his steadfast support, precision guidance and unwavering dedication to seeing us all finish our journey back in the fall of '04.
Oh yeah, preferably we'd get to eat and drink him out of house and home while we're there.
Oh yeah, and not to be greedy but, Santa, if you could, we'd love to get a couple winter 46's while we're up there too ;)

Santa is the bomb...................
He granted us BOTH Cascade and Porter. He didn't give us views, but he did give us Pin Pin on the summit of Porter (I'll post the picture later). What a treat. If you haven't been above 4000' feet this winter......... GO. It's magical up there right now.
