The new policy it seems is to make 46er aspirants write an exam. I received this in the mail. Seems a bit too tough dosn't it?

1. What is the elevation of Mt. Marshall.
2. What mountain was the Marshall brothers 46th summit.
3. What was the attitude of the mountain in question 2’s namesake towards the Adirondack wilderness? Compare to current day attitudes regarding the wilderness.
4. What is the chemical formula for Anorthosite.
5. There are 32 species of trees that grow naturally within the high peaks region. Name them.
6. If you were standing on Nippletop what peaks would you see going around the compass. Bonus points for non 46er peaks.
7. What is the compass bearing from Rocky Peak Ridge to the Beckhorn.
8. Describe the geologic processes that led to the formation of the Adirondack Mountains.
9. What is an erratic?
10. Imagine an entire mountain range denuded of trees. Chronicle the stages of natural reforestation from pioneer species to climax forest. Use a separate paragraph for each one thousand foot elevation taking special note of the various soil types to be found at each elevation.
11. Compare and contrast the actions of the DEC and the APA regarding the protection of the Adirondack Park.
12. Present a seven point argument in favour of wheel chair access to Marcy Dam.
13. Describe the life cycle of Giardia Lamblia.
14. List the ten essentials.
15. Name the species of alpine plants found near the summit of Mt. Marcy.
16. What is the per cent grade of the second feather of the Eagle Slide?
17. What is the maximum depth of Avalanche Lake.
18. Which governor, in your opinion, has done the most good for the Adirondacks. Support your answer with concrete examples of acts of legislation.
19. Arrange the following peaks in descending order of elevation: Nye, Seward, Cacade, Basin, Wright, Esther, Giant, Hough, Tabletop, Big Slide.
20. Name as many routes as possible that may be used to attain the summit of Sawteeth.

9. What is an erratic? Often referred to as a Glacial Erratic. But now here's another one for you.

What is a 'Glacial Erotic.?

It's a huge phallic shaped rock shaped by the glaciers.
