I know its not really a slide, but I wanted to keep this to the "user group".

I searched around and didnt find much on this route...

I know as w/ the Trap Dyke to do it when its been dry, but i dont know much else of the route other than go up.

Any suggestions or anything? Pix? Witty anecdotes?

Thanx.

just go up
I did it years ago with my kids and we found a great big dead frog that must have done a bit of body surfing and taken a hard landing.

MGpeak_bgr has done it. You should be able to find his TR here or on VFTT.

TFR is right, there is a trip report over on VFTT from Spencer. If you're not a member though I don't if you can do a search to find it. If you can't find it let me know, I saved the trip report and could email it to you.

Here are some pics from "Across the Street" on Pitchoff taken just a few weeks ago.

Zoomed On the Slide (http://www.lowerwolfjaw.com/qam1/adkpics/cas2.htm)

Full Route up View - From the bottom lakes to top summit (http://www.lowerwolfjaw.com/qam1/walls/casall.htm)

Falls to Slide (http://www.lowerwolfjaw.com/qam1/adkpics/conc7.htm)

A few more of the falls (http://www.lowerwolfjaw.com/qam1/adkpics/thumbc-c.htm)

The slide while not as impressive as some of the big ones does still look like a challenge and a worthwhile destination.

I've only made it to the top of the falls so I'm only guessing - but from these pics, if you look closely, a little above the falls there looks to be a split.

I'm not sure if it's a split in the river or not, or which split the river goes (The open spot above the falls on the left split looks dry). The left split goes up to the slide, the right split goes to another small slide that you can't see in these pictures (it's sideways to my location, it can be seen from further along the Pitchoff trail, which I don't have a picture), but from the looks of it you want to go left there. If the river goes up the right split and not the left it might be hard to find the left split.

I might be mistaken, but I seem to recall that Rik has done this as well.

Cascade by the Lakes is a favorite whack I've done a number of times. It used to be the ascent route before the old hotel that was located between the 2 Cascade lakes burned down and a trail cut to the summit. Over the years a herd path has developed as there's really only one way up the hill.
The route follows the rocks at the bottom and is steep but no problem so long as its not raining or wet. As soon as you get above the first section, the gradient lessens but the route climbs just under 2,000' in just under a mile.
The woods are beautiful with lots of birch and ferns. You don't need to stay along the brook and there are little tributaries. There's also a small, overgrown mossy slide up along the way.
You'll love the woods, all hardwoods until you get just below the top of Cascase where there is a collar of spruce. The collar is VERY thick for a few minutes. Just below it, if you look around, you'll note that the spruce band has some weaknesses where its less dense and covers less vertical distance a little over to your right and you'll pop out at the base of the summit rock.

A couple of us did this little gem one early Sunday morning while our families slept at the ADK campground. We were alone on the top of Cascade with great conditions. Perfect temp, a hint of a breeze, and we were sitting there listening to the valley waking up and early church bells ringing in the distance. Nice way to go to church that morning.
